Jhapa: Jhapa Energy Limited, which recently issued an initial public offering (IPO), has supplied electricity worth Rs 47.1 million to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in the first five months of the current fiscal year, highlighting the company’s growing role in Nepal’s renewable energy sector.
The power was generated from the company’s 10-megawatt solar project located in Buluchowk, Ward No. 4 of Shivasatakshi Municipality, Jhapa. Between Shrawan and mid-Mangsir of fiscal year 2082/83, the project produced 6.52 million units of electricity, which the NEA purchases at Rs 7.30 per unit.
Chairman Lal Bahadur Sanwa Limbu said the project, spread across 22 bigaha of land and equipped with 21,600 solar panels, feeds power directly into the national grid through the NEA’s Buluchowk substation, located less than a kilometre away. Jhapa Energy has been producing electricity commercially for the past two years.
The company’s electricity sales have shown steady growth over recent years, with Rs 50 million worth of power supplied in fiscal year 2080/81 and Rs 90 million in fiscal year 2081/82.
The recent performance underscores Jhapa Energy’s expanding contribution to the country’s renewable energy output, coming on the heels of its successful IPO issuance.
