KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has stated that Rs 2.56 billion was invested in startups in Koshi Province, a special study carried out by the central bank revealed. Entrepreneurs aged 21 to 70 were engaged in startups, the report said, and of the total investment loans accounted for 38.7% while equity accounted for 61.3%.
The NRB stated that data were collected from 160 startups in the province that had been shortlisted for credit by the Industrial Enterprise Development Institute. The study covered five business sectors: agriculture, production, services, tourism and information technology.
People aged 36-50 have run the largest share of startups, at 44.4%. According to the report, young people have focused more on the digital and technology sectors.
Similarly, 73.3% of young entrepreneurs are engaged in the information technology sector, while engagement is lowest in agriculture, at just 21.2%.
As stated in the study report, 41.3% of the startups are related to agriculture, 18.1% to production, 17.5% to services, 13.8% to tourism and 9.4% to information technology.
