Customs data show that a total of 275,246 kilograms of Chhurpi were shipped between mid-July and mid-December. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, exports stood at 217,068 kilograms valued at Rs 367.6 million, indicating a notable rise in both volume and earnings.
Kakarbhitta remains the country’s primary export gateway for domestically produced Chhurpi, with the product ranking fourth among the top ten export items processed through the customs office.
Chhurpi is produced mainly in Nepal’s hilly and mountainous regions, with Koshi Province accounting for about 80 per cent of national output, according to the Nepal Chhurpi Producers Association. The product is largely exported to Europe and the United States, where it is used as a natural chew for dogs and cats.
Producers say greater policy support and promotion could help further strengthen Chhurpi’s contribution to Nepal’s export sector.
