KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has announced plans to provide employment to family members of individuals declared martyrs during the Gen-Z movement of September 8–9, 2025, following a government directive.
In a board meeting held on Tuesday, chaired by former Minister Kulman Ghising, NEA decided to hire 27 members from the families of Gen-Z martyrs. Applicants will be appointed on a contract basis to positions of up to three levels, depending on academic qualifications, at NEA offices closest to their residences.
Ghising said the decision aligns with agreements reached between the government and representatives of the Gen-Z movement, as well as Cabinet-approved assistance procedures. He added that the initiative forms part of broader state support for those affected by the protests.
Under the approved procedures, individuals injured or disabled during the Gen-Z movement, their immediate family members, and families of martyrs are entitled to various forms of government assistance. This includes free education arranged through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, as well as employment opportunities coordinated by sectoral ministries such as Labour, Employment and Social Security; Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation; Urban Development; Physical Infrastructure and Transport; Drinking Water; Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; Youth and Sports; and Industry, Commerce and Supplies.
The government has recognised 45 individuals who lost their lives during the Gen-Z movement as martyrs, and this employment initiative is among the measures designed to support their families and honour their sacrifice.
