At Nepal Open University convocation, PM Karki calls for end to evils, corruption

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki called for an end to evils, aberrations and corruption through mutual cooperation and collaboration, speaking at the first convocation of Nepal Open University in Kathmandu on Sunday.

PM Karki, who is also the university's chancellor, stressed the need to resolve existing problems by creating employment opportunities through excellence in higher education.

“We should build our country by ending anomalies and corruption. I urge the graduates to collaborate in the nation‑building campaign. The university should impart productivity‑oriented education to stop the brain drain of students, address the changing needs of today’s youth and create an environment where produced human resources can contribute to the nation,” she said.

Educationist and former vice‑chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Kedar Bhakta Mathema, said it is the responsibility of Open University students to engage in lifelong learning and to continue learning even in difficult situations.

Vice‑chancellor of the Open University, Dr Shilu Bajracharya, said the institution has been providing higher education to people leading busy lives through convenient distance learning.

A total of 545 students from various faculties graduated from the Open University.
