KATHMANDU: Deurali-Janta Pharmaceuticals marked its 35th anniversary and announced plans to build a new factory in Bharatpur, Chitwan.
The company said it will invest an additional Rs 4.75 billion in the project, which is expected to be completed within two years and create 550 direct jobs.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Deurali-Janta said it has been a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Nepal for more than three decades, producing essential medicines domestically and reducing the country’s dependence on drug imports.
Using state-of-the-art technology, the company researches, produces and tests 296 types of life‑saving drugs, including capsules, tablets, liquids, ointments and dry powders.
The firm said about 675 employees, including scientists and technicians educated abroad, support its operations and have helped establish Deurali-Janta as a trusted name in Nepal’s pharmaceutical sector.
Deurali-Janta is the first pharmaceutical company in Nepal to import high-level international technology through technology transfer. It said it is also the first in the country to receive ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications for meeting cGMP and environmental standards, and it holds WHO GMP certification.
Looking ahead, the company said it aims to become self-reliant in medicine production and to explore opportunities to export Nepali medicines to global markets.
The company thanked doctors, pharmaceutical entrepreneurs, journalists, business partners and government officials for their support, and paid tribute to its staff for their 'continuous hard work'.
Deurali-Janta expressed 'heartfelt gratitude' for public trust as it embarks on the next phase of growth and called for cooperation from government agencies, the public and the media to help expedite the new project.
