Hoste Hainse holds charity screening of Elephants in the Fog, raises funds for flood relief, education

KATHMANDU: Hoste Hainse organised a charity screening of the Nepali film 'Elephants in the Fog' at QFX Cinemas in Civil Mall, Kathmandu, on September 6.

The screening drew 560 attendees to raise funds for disaster relief and educational initiatives.

Half the proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund to aid communities affected by recent flooding, while the remaining 50% will support Project 3K, Hoste Hainse’s flagship educational initiative that provides education to children from underserved and marginalised communities in Sarlahi through not-for-profit community schools.

The screening celebrated Elephants in the Fog, the feature debut of Director Abinash Bikram Shah, which recently secured the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Shah attended the event alongside Producer Anup Poudel and cast members Pushpa Thing Lama, Aliz Ghimire, Umisha Pandey and Sanjay Kumar Gupta, allowing attendees to meet the film team and underlining the collaboration between the Nepali film fraternity and charitable causes.

For more than 36 years, the non-governmental organisation has worked to create sustainable community development through educational programmes. The event continues the organisation's history of using cinema to raise awareness and funds for social issues; previous charity screenings organised by Hoste Hainse have included Superman in 2025, Dunki in 2023, and both Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022.

The successful mobilisation of supporters underscores the potential of collective action in addressing humanitarian needs and supporting educational opportunities for children in Nepal.
