Record Number of Americans Seek UK Citizenship Amid Trump’s Second Term

London: A record number of American nationals applied for British citizenship in 2025, as political tensions under former President Donald Trump’s second term appear to drive interest in relocating to the UK.

According to Home Office data released Thursday, 8,790 Americans applied for citizenship through registration or naturalisation last year a 42% increase on the 2024 figure, which had already set a record.

The final quarter of 2025 alone saw 2,490 applications, marking the highest quarterly total on record.

Experts and analysts suggest that the current political climate in the United States, including policies and rhetoric associated with Trump, has been a major factor encouraging Americans to seek life and citizenship in the UK.
