BIRGUNJ, PARSA: Birgunj Customs Office has recorded imports worth Rs 519 billion in the first seven months of current fiscal year 2025/26. During the same period in the previous fiscal year, imports were lower by Rs 57.31 billion, or 12%, than in the current fiscal year.
Customs Office Information Officer Uday Singh Bista said petroleum products accounted for the largest share of imports this fiscal year, followed by iron and iron products. Petroleum imports totalled Rs 143 billion, while iron and iron products amounted to Rs 46.16 billion.
During the review period, machinery and its parts worth Rs 35.87 billion were imported. This was followed by soyabean crude oil imports worth Rs 35.67 billion and electrical machinery, equipment and their parts valued at Rs 27.98 billion.
