KATHMANDU: The Association of Nepali Origin (ANO) has drawn the government’s attention, asking it to pay attention to the security of Nepalis working in Middle Eastern countries in the recent period.

An ANO conference held in Hong Kong on Saturday passed a proposal that the government should pay special attention to, and make necessary efforts towards, the security of Nepalis residing in Middle Eastern countries in the context of global security challenges.

The conference also passed a proposal calling for mutual unity among all Nepali‑language‑speaking citizens worldwide and for that unity to be used for the welfare of Nepal by protecting and promoting people of Nepali origin.

Hong Kong’s first Nepalese district councillor and the first Nepali in the Hong Kong government, Aruna Gurung, and ANO’s International Committee general secretary Chuda Mani Bhattarai inaugurated the conference, which was attended by a large number of people of Nepali origin and Nepali‑speaking residents of Hong Kong, the ANO said in a press release.

On the occasion, ANO’s International Committee general secretary Bhattarai, member Khusi Gurung and district councillor Aruna Gurung wished ANO success in connecting people of Nepali origin regardless of the countries in which they were born and raised, and in preserving and transmitting their culture.

The ANO was established in 2024 under the leadership of Dilli Adhikari, who resides in the US.
