KATHMANDU: Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has urged everyone to purchase and use only the necessary amount of petroleum products and cooking gas, and warned that action will be taken against those hoarding or profiteering.

In a press release on Wednesday, the state‑owned trading enterprise responsible for the import, storage and distribution of petroleum products requested that people do not refill extra gas cylinders or store unnecessary cylinders, and urged an increase in the use of electricity instead of cooking gas.

The NOC has clarified that some protective measures should be adopted in the consumption of petroleum products and cooking gas in the current situation, as Nepal is completely dependent on imports of petroleum products.

Action will be taken if anyone is found to be holding gas cylinders unnecessarily, selling cooking gas and petroleum products at high prices, or selling new cylinders, according to the NOC.

“The consumption of petroleum products and LPG should be reduced for industrial use. Imports and sales of petroleum products are now regular. We request everyone to purchase only what is necessary and to avoid unnecessary storage of fuel, bearing in mind that Nepal cannot be immune from global impacts due to problems that have surfaced in the Middle East,” the statement reads.
