KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank has launched Nepal’s first dedicated Non-Resident and Overseas Banking Division (NROBD).
The NROBD is a full-service unit designed to serve Nepalis living abroad through a single-window platform that combines the bank’s international presence, technology and on-the-ground operations.
The new division was formally inaugurated on Thursday at the bank’s corporate office in Naxal, Kathmandu. The ceremony was led by Chandra Prasad Dhakal, chairman of Global IME Bank and president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). Members of the board, the chief executive officer, the deputy chief executive officer and senior management attended the programme.
NROBD will provide a comprehensive range of services for the diaspora, including account opening, credit processing, transaction banking, capital market and portfolio services. Overseas customers can access services through the NROBD’s international office locations, representatives in 10 countries, direct contact numbers, WhatsApp/Viber and the Naxal office. The bank said the service desk is being developed to offer 24-hour banking support in the future.
Chairman Dhakal said that Nepalis living abroad for employment or other purposes are important partners in Nepal’s development and progress and expressed confidence that the new department would further strengthen their connection with the motherland. “This Non-Resident and Overseas Banking Department will enable Global IME Bank to provide comprehensive banking services tailored to the needs of Nepali citizens living abroad. Through various services, it will help connect their aspirations, investments and families back home,” he said. “This is an important step towards delivering convenient, fast and transparent banking services to Nepalis wherever they are.”
Commenting on the launch, the bank’s CEO, Surendra Raj Regmi, said, “Nepali Citizens living abroad are an integral part of our nation’s progress. With the establishment of the Non-Resident and Overseas Banking Department, Global IME Bank is taking a decisive step to stand beside them not only as a remittance partner but as a full-fledged financial institution that supports their aspirations, investments, and families back home. This initiative reflects how seriously we value our diaspora and our commitment to provide them with world-class banking services wherever they are.”
Since its establishment in 2007, Global IME Bank has expanded its remittance network, developed international bank partnerships and opened foreign offices in the UK, Australia and India, while maintaining representatives in multiple countries. The bank operates around 1,000 service centres across Nepal, including 352 branches and 379 ATMs, and is the first private commercial bank in Nepal to establish branch networks in all 77 districts. In 2024, the bank received the Euromoney Award for Excellence and the Global Finance Best Bank Award.
