KATHMANDU: Experts and stakeholders have urged investors to increase investment in the hydropower, tourism and information technology sectors, saying the investment climate in Nepal has become favourable.
The appeal came at the 12th Non‑Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Global Conference in Kathmandu on Saturday, where speakers pointed to opportunities for increased investment from the Nepali diaspora, given that policy stability, confidence and institutional mechanisms were in place.
On the occasion, Investment Board of Nepal Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyewali said collaboration between the government, the NRNA and the private sector was needed to build a basis of confidence for investment in Nepal. He said the Investment Board of Nepal was committed to facilitating investment and added that everyone should join hands to boost investors’ confidence in the context of the formation of a strong government.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Executive Director Ram Sharan Kharel said the time has come to link up Nepali migrant workers with the country’s sustainable economic development.
On the occasion, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal said the private sector was ready to bring in investment from the Nepali diaspora through policy reforms, given the political stability created in Nepal.
Nepal Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi said the promotion of cultural tourism was needed to connect second‑generation Nepalis living abroad with their communities in Nepal.
Speakers at the conference emphasised that policy stability, institutional mechanisms and renewed investor confidence are key to attracting capital from overseas Nepalis, and identified hydropower, tourism and information technology as priority sectors.
