CHITWAN: Himalayan Riders Chitwan will set out on a 1,250-kilometre motorcycle journey on March 25, the group said. The trip is aimed at promoting domestic and ride tourism.
The six-day expedition will start from Narayangadh. Bharatpur Metropolitan City Acting Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari is scheduled to inaugurate the journey in the premises of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chitwan (CCIC).
Organisers said the team will traverse 15 districts across Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces. The route will pass through Chitwan, Tanahun, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, East Rukum, West Rukum, Dolpa, Jajarkot, Salyan, Dang, Kapilvastu, Rupandehi, West Nawalparasi and East Nawalparasi.
Dolpa has been designated the main destination of the ride because of its tourism significance and remoteness, the organisers said.
Amrit Joshi, ride co-ordinator and former president of Chitwan Automobile Association, said the objective is to raise the profile of Nepal’s hilly and Himalayan destinations through motorcycle travel. “Our objective is to promote tourism in the beautiful hilly and Himalayan regions of Nepal through motorcycle travel,” Joshi said. “This will help bring overshadowed destinations to light and spread messages regarding road safety.”
Joshi added that arrangements for route planning, safety and accommodation have been completed. He noted that Himalayan Riders has previously completed 10 rides in areas including Manang, Dhorpatan, Taksera and Sikles, and has made ride tourism its central focus.
The group also outlined future plans to include destinations such as Rara, Humla, Ramaroshan and eastern highland locations including Tinjure, Solu Salleri and Kalinchowk in upcoming itineraries.
Mohan KC, programme co-ordinator and president of Chitwan Automobile Association, expressed confidence that branding ride tourism in Nepal’s high hilly and Himalayan regions could significantly boost visitor numbers.
