KATHMANDU: Global IME Bank unveiled its New Year 2083 calendar at its corporate office in Kamaladi, Kathmandu, on Wednesday.

The calendar features rare images and the philosophical palette of Paubha art, an indigenous painting tradition of the Newar community.

The calendar was jointly unveiled by the bank’s chairman and president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, and Prof Dr Sanduk Ruit, founder and executive director of Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology. The ceremony was attended by senior officials including the bank's CEO Surendra Raj Regmi, deputy CEO Suman Pokharel, Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology CEO Dr Reeta Gurung and other members of the bank’s management team.

The bank said the 2083 calendar highlights Paubha art’s deep cultural ties to the Kathmandu Valley and its distinct identity and philosophical depth, which sets it apart from the visually similar Thangka tradition. The edition includes rare Paubha images chosen to reflect the art form’s spiritual and aesthetic values.

Global IME Bank has for several years incorporated original paintings into its annual calendar as part of efforts to protect and promote Nepali art, literature, culture and civilisation. Previous themes have included Mithila paintings in 2079 BS, Mandala art in 2080 BS, ancient artefacts returned to Nepal in 2081 BS, and rare photographs depicting traditional Nepali lifestyles in 2082 BS.

At the event, the bank also highlighted its nationwide presence and service network. Global IME Bank said it is the first private commercial bank to operate branches in all 77 districts of Nepal and serves customers through more than 1,000 service points, including 352 branch offices, 379 ATMs, 147 branchless banking outlets, 68 extension and revenue collection counters, and three foreign representative offices.

The bank noted its role in facilitating remittances from a wide range of countries, listing the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, India and Jordan among source countries. Global IME Bank also cited a series of national and international recognitions, including Bank of the Year 2014, Best Internet Bank 2016, Best Bank Nepal 2024 and 2025, multiple Euromoney Awards for Excellence, Best Bank ESG Nepal 2024, and awards for employer excellence.
