KATHMANDU: A delegation from Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) today met Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina.
The meeting focused on a directive issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on April 1 that has mandated that government notices and advertisements be published and broadcast only in government media.
The FNJ delegation, led by its chairperson Nirmala Sharma, drew the minister’s attention to the directive and asked him to reconsider it and to maintain transparency in advertising.
Minister Timilsina asserted that the amount of government advertising had been grossly misused; working journalists had not benefited; and brokers were taking advantage of the previous scheme, which prompted the government to issue the directive.
He added that he had always supported working journalists and vowed to meet genuine demands.
