KATHMANDU: National Statistics Office (NSO) and Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to improve the collection, review, analysis, research and policy-making of reliable data on the national economy.

The MoU was signed because quality and timely data are necessary for the country's economic development, industrial expansion and effective policy-making.

It was agreed as part of a strategy to collaborate and coordinate between government bodies and the private sector for a national strategy to develop the statistical system, and to enhance statistical quality by strengthening the collection, analysis and utilisation of data on private-sector economic activities.

At a programme organised at the NSO, NSO Director Dr Bed Prasad Dhakal and CNI Director General Dr Ghanashyam Ojha signed the MoU in the presence of NSO Chief Dr Kamal Prasad Pokharel and CNI President Birendra Raj Pandey.

On the occasion, CNI President Pandey said the collaboration would help strengthen the collection, analysis and utilisation of economic data related to the private sector.

Similarly, NSO Chief Dr Pokharel said it would foster collaboration between government and the private sector in the development of the statistical system, improve the quality of data related to the national economy and expand its use.

The NSO and CNI will collaborate on the national economic census, development of a private-sector statistical system, research, policy studies, data exchange, capacity building, publicity and public awareness.
