KATHMANDU: The National Economic Census 2082 has begun across Nepal today, National Statistics Office (NSO) said.

Enumerators and supervisors have already reached their assigned areas to start the survey. The census, which began today, is expected to be completed by the third week of June, and almost 5,000 personnel have been mobilised for the enumeration.

The Ministry of Finance has urged the public to cooperate with the exercise, saying the survey will collect data on the country’s industrial entities and enterprises.

Basic information on 18 sectors of the economy will be gathered, including the number and types of industries, enterprises, service providers and cooperatives; details on private and public entities; and information on employment, production and service delivery.

All business entities — large and small, registered and unregistered — will be enumerated and employment data recorded. Non-governmental organisations, public corporations, and government and private schools and hospitals will also be included.

Offices have been established in all 77 districts and seven additional locations to carry out the work, and these facilities will remain operational until mid-July, officials said.

The NSO reiterated its appeal for cooperation to ensure accurate and essential data collection. The last such survey, conducted seven years ago, showed Nepal had more than 923,000 institutions and industrial entities.
