KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) closed sharply higher on Wednesday as bullish momentum and strong buying interest lifted the benchmark index by 33.27 points, or 1.17%, to close at 2,866.87. The market remained in positive territory throughout the session.
Meanwhile, trading activity intensified, with total turnover rising to Rs 10,537.01 million as 26.44 million shares changed hands across 123,359 transactions. A total of 344 scrips were traded on Wednesday.
Market capitalisation stood at Rs 4,889,601.26 million, while float market capitalisation reached Rs 1,630,403.31 million.
In terms of breadth, the market was strongly positive: 221 scrips advanced, 45 declined and three remained unchanged. The Sensitive Index rose 5.22 points (1.09%) to 481.87. The Float Index gained 2.14 points (1.11%) to 194.28, and the Sensitive Float Index climbed 1.65 points (1.02%) to 163.06.
Among individual stocks, Ridge Line Energy (RLEL) led the gainers, closing at Rs 1,035.10 after a 10% jump. Suryakunda Hydro Electric (SKHEL) and Hotel Forest Inn (HFIN) also hit the daily ceiling, closing at Rs 980.30 and Rs 906.60 respectively, each up 10%.
Meanwhile, Shivam Cements (SHIVM) recorded the highest turnover of Rs 580.96 million at a last traded price of Rs 708. National Hydro Power Company (NHPC) followed with a turnover of Rs 571.12 million and a last traded price of Rs 324.90.
