KATHMANDU: Various civil service trade unions have urged the government not to reduce trade union rights in the Federal Civil Service Bill.

In a joint statement, they demanded that full trade union rights be ensured so that all workers can organise and join the union of their choice, in accordance with Nepal’s Constitution and the agreements Nepal has signed and ratified at the International Labour Organization.

The unions also called for legal measures to strengthen the protection of employees’ rights, participation and collective bargaining in the public service.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA) made public the draft bill on the formation, operation and service terms and conditions of the federal civil service on April 24 for suggestions under the Legislation Act, 2081.

The organisations issuing the joint demand include the Nepal Civil Service Employees Organisation, Nepal Civil Service Employee's Union, Nepal National Civil Service Employees Organisation, Unified Government Employees Association, Nepal Madhesi Civil Service Employees Forum and Independent Civil Servants Organisation.
