KATHMANDU: The new academic session has begun today, after the government adjusted the school calendar and reminded schools to delay hurried enrolment at the start of Baisakh.
The government had reminded schools to begin the new session from Baisakh 15 to break the recent trend of starting enrolment in the very first week of Baisakh, when there was neither an adequate gap between sessions nor annual exam results prepared. It therefore asked schools to adjust start dates and to take into account the shortage of fuel supply when planning.
Despite the directive, some local levels have already enrolled students.
The government had also asked private schools to return fees if they imposed charges in contravention of the rule and reminded them of the Fee Determination Directive, 2072, so that guardians would not be forced to pay more.
The Supreme Court had issued an order prohibiting annual school enrolment if the results of the previous session were not published and original certificates were not prepared and handed to students. A single bench of Justice Balkrishna Dhakal issued the order, which also asked schools to ensure proper timing for exam results, the educational session and certificate distribution.
Previously, the academic session used to begin as early as Baisakh 2.
