KATHMANDU: The government has proposed collaboration with Finland to improve school education in Nepal.
The proposal was put forward during a courtesy call at the Ministry between Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel, and Finland’s Ambassador to Nepal, Petri Puhakka.
Minister Pokharel said the proposal was made because education in Finland is regarded as among the best in the world. He thanked the Finnish government for its support to Nepal’s development and said relations between the two countries were pleasant and cordial.
As government spokesperson, Minister Pokharel outlined the government’s priorities and upcoming programmes and lauded Finland’s support for the education sector. He said he expected Finland’s continued assistance in the development of various sectors, including education.
Various matters, including bilateral relations and the mobilisation of development assistance, were also discussed at the meeting.
Ambassador Puhakka expressed Finland’s commitment to continue supporting Nepal’s education sector for the next five years. He said the School Education Sector Plan and the Teachers’ Education programme are already in operation with Finnish support.
Puhakka added that, given Finland’s expertise in autism and inclusive education, his government is willing to support and collaborate on these programmes, particularly as the Government of Nepal has adopted a policy to establish schools for children with autism.
