KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has called on the government to provide health services and housing for citizens displaced from encroached settlements by the end of April next year. The demand was made after a meeting of the party’s secretariat in Kathmandu today.

Following the meeting, RSP spokesperson Manish Jha announced that the party has requested a halt to bulldozer operations aimed at demolishing houses or structures in areas not officially acquired until an authorised body is established and data on landless squatters is gathered. He urged the government to relocate the encroached structures and settlements to safe and organised housing in line with the party’s electoral commitments.

Jha pointed out that the government had previously failed to adequately address the issue and said that, in accordance with the RSP election manifesto, the party has initiated efforts to organise the landless residents. He said the party expects an authorised entity to be created to manage the process and ensure sustainable solutions for those affected.

“We will implement measures to manage those currently without homes in a safe and dignified manner. We will ensure sustainable management through authorised entities. The authority is expected to accommodate at least 75% of the citizens by the end of next March,” spokesperson Jha said.

The RSP has set a clear timetable and is pressing the government to meet the deadline and provide both housing and health services for displaced citizens. The party is also calling for an immediate suspension of demolitions in non-acquired areas until the proposed authority and data collection are in place.
