KAVREPALANCHOK: Security authorities have urged travellers to check road conditions before using the BP Highway after recurring obstructions and damage along the Roshi River section.

Kavrepalanchok District Security Committee has ordered an indefinite night-time closure of the highway, effective from Tuesday, with the road shut between 5:00 pm and 5:00 am. The move follows heavy rainfall that has further eroded the riverside stretch where a temporary diversion has been in use since the highway was badly damaged two years ago.

Officials said an 18-kilometre portion of the BP Highway is currently affected, with some sections posing a grave threat to passengers and vehicles along the Roshi River bank. They warned that the situation can deteriorate rapidly during heavy rain and flooding.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabin Bista, information officer at Kavre District Police Office, said, "The highway has been closed indefinitely during the night from Tuesday as the flood in Roshi River is posing severe threat to passengers and vehicles travelling to and from Kathmandu."

Meanwhile, security forces carried out a night rescue operation two days ago after five microbuses became trapped in floodwaters on the Roshi River following rainfall. No immediate details on casualties or injuries were released.

Officials said a permanent solution for the damaged riverside highway is still pending and urged commuters to plan journeys accordingly, avoid night travel on the affected stretch, and follow updates from local authorities.
