KATHMANDU: Nepali Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday organised an interaction on labour awareness and safe employment in Abu Dhabi in view of risks facing Nepali workers owing to a lack of awareness of local rules and laws.
Nepali workers from various companies in the UAE took part in the awareness programme organised at the Embassy. The event was attended by the Nepali Ambassador to the UAE, Tej Bahadur Chhetri, and diplomatic staff.
A labour attaché at the Embassy, Pankaj Lamichhane, gave a presentation on how workers could exercise their rights and empower themselves for safety. His presentation featured the rules to be observed while working in a company, precautions needed during work, renewal of labour permits, utilisation of the Social Security Fund (SSF) scheme and other entitlements awarded by the Government of Nepal.
Lamichhane also urged migrant workers to keep personal documents such as passports, Emirates ID and workers’ identity cards safe and to remain vigilant against cybercrime and financial fraud in the wake of rising digital communications and transactions.

Third Secretary at the Embassy, Bimalesh Kumar Mishra, shared information on passport and consular services. The workers voiced the need for continuing such awareness programmes in the days ahead and spoke about the Government’s initiative to ensure minimum wages for foreign employment.
Practical information on first aid was also provided to the migrant workers.
