GANDAKI: Kaski District Police Office (DPO) collected more than Rs 4.4 million in revenue from fines imposed on traffic rule violators during the month of Baisakh, police officials said on Tuesday.
Police Inspector Sujit Kumar Devkota at the DPO said 5,263 drivers were fined during the period. Traffic records show 22 vehicles were involved in accidents, resulting in five deaths and 26 injuries.
According to traffic police data, 12 vehicles were penalised for speeding, five drivers were found riding without a licence, and three drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.
"Traffic police have intensified actions against rule breakers. Both the DPO and the Traffic Police Office jointly check the vehicles and drivers," Inspector Devkota said.
The campaign also monitored how passengers were treated and included checks on traffic police conduct towards commuters as part of efforts to reduce road accidents.
