KANKRE BIHAR, SURKHET: Karnali Province government, in collaboration with the federal government, will build hydropower projects with a generation capacity of up to 20 megawatts through a public–private partnership, provincial officials announced on Thursday.
Karnali's Chief Minister Yagya Raj Joshi said, “Hydropower projects of up to 20 megawatts will be constructed with shared investment from the people of Karnali under the 'Karnali's Water – People's Investment' campaign.” He said the initiative aims to involve local residents in financing and benefiting from smaller‑scale power schemes.
Officials said the under‑construction Jagadulla‑A Hydroelectricity Project in Dolpa and other provincial projects will proceed with investment from the Karnali provincial government. The move is part of a broader push to expand the province’s energy mix and increase local generation capacity.
The provincial government’s recently announced policies and programmes commit to expanding electricity through solar and wind energy, as well as small and micro hydropower and mini‑grids. Authorities say these measures are intended to improve access to reliable power across Karnali.
