BIRATNAGAR: Chamber of Industries Morang (CIM) today said it is going to hold Skill Festival 2083 in Biratnagar on Sunday, June 14.
The one-day event will take place at the CIM Secretariat from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with financial support from the Swiss government, technical assistance from ENSSURE/Helvetas Nepal and coordination with the Ministry of Social Development of Koshi Province. In a press statement, CIM said the festival aims to highlight skill development and the gap between the manpower needs of industry and the skills available in the market.
Among the planned activities are inter-institute skill competitions, live training sessions and career counselling. Awards for winners of the final round of the skill competitions will be presented at 4:30 pm on the same day.
CIM President Nand Kishor Rathi said the event will strengthen coordination and collaboration among training providers, industrial enterprises, government agencies and trainees. He said it will help produce skilled manpower aligned with market needs, create employment opportunities and send the message that job prospects exist within the country. He added he was confident the festival would raise awareness about the importance of technical education and apprenticeship programmes and help balance the demand and supply of skilled human resources.
Additionally, Deepak Kumar Agrawal, executive committee member and coordinator of CIM’s Human Resource Development Committee, said competitions will cover information technology, hotel management and automobiles. He said live training will include pottery, plumbing, industrial automation, CCTV, 3D printing and green skills, alongside career guidance sessions for students and youth.
CIM expect students from IT, hotel management and automobile engineering programmes, representatives of industrial enterprises, technical institutes and provincial and district associations from the IT and hospitality sectors to take part. CIM said it hopes the festival will contribute to making technical and vocational education more industry-friendly and practical through institutionalised vocational skill development, career guidance and industry collaboration.
