POKHARA: Ticketing is now open for direct flights between Pokhara International Airport and Dubai, with daily services set to begin on September 23.

Flydubai, the Dubai-based carrier, has started selling seats for the new route, marking the first time regular international business flights will operate from Pokhara since the airport opened three years ago. Passengers can purchase tickets through Flydubai’s official website and through recognised travel agencies, the airline confirmed.

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhan Raj Acharya called the Dubai link “an important achievement in expanding Pokhara’s international identity.” He said the service is more than an expansion of air connectivity, calling it “an opportunity to promote tourism, attract investment, and de-concentrate air traffic from Kathmandu.”

Bharat Parajuli, a central member of the Hotel Association Nepal, said talks with the UAE Ambassador on tourism exchange and the new direct flights were “positive and fruitful.” He added, “The flights to Dubai would significantly contribute to the expansion of tourism, trade, investment and people-to-people relations.”

Until now, Pokhara International Airport has handled only charter services to countries such as China and Bhutan and emergency medical flights to India. Officials and hoteliers said the introduction of scheduled international flights could open new avenues for promoting the region’s natural beauty, adventure tourism and cultural heritage.
