KATHMANDU: Global Compact Nepal (GCN) marked World Environment Day with a Social Night in Kupondole, Lalitpur, on Friday. The event drew more than 90 participants from its network and the wider sustainability community.

The informal gathering brought together GCN members, partners, supporters and others interested in sustainability and responsible business practices for an evening of networking and conversation. With no formal agenda or presentations, the event prioritised relationship‑building and open exchange in a relaxed setting.

GCN Executive Director Krishna Bikram Shah and the GCN Secretariat Team welcomed attendees and helped create space for dialogue, idea‑sharing and potential collaboration. The evening began with opening remarks from GCN President Samir Thapa, who thanked participants and emphasised the need for collective engagement to advance sustainability in Nepal.

A highlight of the night was the presentation of certificates to organisations that recently joined GCN, recognising their commitment to the 10 Principles of the United Nations Global Compact and their pledge to contribute to a more sustainable future.

GCN board members and the leadership team attended the event, including Samir Thapa, Yogendra Chitrakar, Narayan Krishna Kharel, Anisha Karn, Kritishma Karki, Nitisha Shrestha, Sahara Joshi, Sulochana Shrestha‑Shah and Nabina Shrestha. Their attendance underlined GCN’s emphasis on an inclusive, engaged network working towards social, environmental and economic impact.

Throughout the evening, participants exchanged experiences and perspectives, and discussions signalled growing interest among businesses, organisations and individuals in collaborative approaches to sustainability. GCN thanked all who joined the celebration and said it will continue to create opportunities that bring people together and strengthen the community, working towards a more resilient future.
