KATHMANDU: The national-level hackathon 'KMC HackVerse' concluded on Sunday. The event was organised by the TechVerse Club of Kathmandu Model College, Bagbazar, on the college campus.
Held from June 19 to 21, the 48-hour competition saw student teams selected from colleges across Nepal take part. Over the course of the hackathon, participants developed projects to solve real-world problems through technology. The college said this was the first hackathon in Nepal held exclusively for Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) students.
At the opening session, the TechVerse Club outlined the event’s objectives, rules and evaluation process. Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation) Acting President Chiranjibi Adhikari delivered the keynote address and urged students to seek technological solutions to societal challenges. Industry mentors and IT experts provided technical and practical guidance throughout the competition.
During the closing ceremony, teams presented their projects and prototypes to a panel of judges. Entries were evaluated on innovation, technical implementation, practicality, effectiveness and presentation.
The judges announced the top teams at the ceremony, with KMC’s 'Team Innovators' announced as overall winners. The team of Kasam Thapa Magar, Samrat Ghimire and Ashok Chaudhary secured first place after presenting their project and prototype to the panel.
Prime College’s 'Team Mentos', comprising Utsav Dangol, Sanchit Maharjan, Amit Raut and Bishesh Maharjan, was announced as first runner-up, while New Summit College’s 'Team A Solve Z' — Ankita Mainali, Yohesh Dahal and Ayush Shrestha — was announced as second runner-up.
Prizes included trophies, medals, certificates and cash awards for winners and runners-up. Organisers said sponsored gift vouchers, training and technology-related support from partner organisations were also provided, with the total value of prizes exceeding Rs 100,000.
