KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment (MoFE) has prepared to import about 210,000 metric tonnes of chemical fertiliser by mid‑August to meet demand for the paddy season.
The MoFE has initiated procedures to bring the fertiliser through multiple channels to ensure timely supply for farmers. Under a government‑to‑government agreement with India, 30,000 metric tonnes of urea are expected to arrive in Nepal in the first week of August.
A further 180,000 metric tonnes will be procured through a global tender, comprising 60,000 metric tonnes of DAP and 120,000 metric tonnes of urea. The ministry said this represents the largest fertiliser import target set so far this year.
To curb black‑market activity and other irregularities at the local level, the ministry has set up a complaint hotline and QR code. Complaints can be registered by calling 9700099113 or scanning the QR code between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
