KATHMANDU: Swostishree Gurukul IB Continuum School and the Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to strengthen psychosocial wellbeing, promote positive discipline and introduce counselling-informed teaching practices across the school community.

Under the agreement, KUSOED will design and deliver a series of capacity-building workshops for parents and teaching staff, drawing on its expertise in education, counselling psychology and wellbeing facilitation. The parents’ workshops will focus on identifying and responding to students’ psychosocial concerns and will be held in three separate batches to reach different groups of caregivers.

Professional development for teachers will cover integrating counselling skills into everyday teaching, identifying and responding to psychosocial concerns, and establishing positive-discipline approaches as part of classroom culture. The sessions aim to improve teachers’ ability to recognise students’ emotional and social needs and to apply practical strategies in daily classroom practice.

The MoU was signed by Prof Dr Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean of the Kathmandu University School of Education, and Neha KC, Principal of Swostishree Gurukul IB Continuum School. The ceremony was witnessed by Dr Shree Krishna Wagle, Head of the School Counselling & Psychological Wellbeing Unit, and Shyam KC, Student Agency & Engagement Co‑ordinator at Swostishree Gurukul.

In a press statement, school officials said the partnership reflects a commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment where the emotional, social and academic wellbeing of every learner is prioritised. The collaboration is expected to benefit students, parents, teachers and the wider school community by strengthening support for student wellbeing alongside academic programmes.
