MFD forecasts heavy rain, thunderstorms in hilly, Tarai regions

KATHMANDU: Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has said the country will be generally cloudy today with scattered rain and thunderstorms.

Light to moderate rain or snow accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible at some places in the Hilly and Himalayan regions. A few areas in the Tarai of Lumbini and Sudurpashchim provinces, and parts of Madhesh and the Tarai of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, may also see light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the Hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces. Gusty winds are likely at a few places in Madhesh Province and the Tarai of Lumbini Province.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy nationwide. A few places in the Himalayan region may receive light to moderate rain or snow with thunder and lightning, while some Hilly and Tarai areas could see light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. Heavy rainfall is possible at a few places in the Hilly and Tarai areas of Koshi, and at one or two places in the Hilly and Tarai areas of Gandaki, Lumbini and Madhesh.

MFD said the country remains under the influence of the monsoon. The monsoon trough lies south of its usual location over eastern Nepal and close to normal over the western part of the country.
