KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the government intends to deepen development collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to reflect changing national priorities and needs.
Speaking at a programme on Wednesday marking 60 years of Nepal‑UNDP cooperation, Dr Wagle praised UNDP’s role in poverty alleviation, reducing inequality and promoting sustainable development, as well as its work in health and education.
“UNDP's contributions to alleviating poverty, minimising inequality, pushing sustainable development, and improving health and education sectors are significant,” the finance minister said. “I wish the 60‑year collaboration would continue into the century.”
Dr Wagle said development collaboration under the UN umbrella had gone beyond financial investment to become a strong medium of inter‑country cooperation and coordination. He also acknowledged UNDP’s work in ecological preservation, democratic consolidation, youth empowerment and digital transformation.
On the occasion, he launched a photo book, 60 Years of Collaboration, which compiles details of UNDP projects in Nepal over three decades.
The event brought together government officials and UNDP representatives to mark the milestone and reaffirm ongoing cooperation.
