CNI rejects Industry Minister's remarks on gas suppliers

KATHMANDU: Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has expressed serious concern over remarks made by Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Gauri Kumari Yadav targeting industrialists and business owners.

During a parliamentary committee meeting on Wednesday, Yadav said that "gas supply will not become smooth until gas industrialists are brought to heel.” CNI said the statement was irresponsible and had caused disappointment across the private sector.

In a statement, the private sector body said such comments undermine entrepreneurs working alongside the government to maintain supply chains during times of disaster.

CNI stated that at a time when increased investment, job creation and economic growth are essential, such remarks create obstacles to raising private sector morale and addressing existing challenges.

Commenting on the current gas shortage, CNI said that if any industrialist or entrepreneur is found to have deliberately created an artificial shortage during supply chain disruptions, legal action should be taken against the concerned party in accordance with the law.
