FNCCI finalises Commodity Council members, nominates Bhakta Bahadur Hamal as vice-chairman
KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has finalised members for its Commodity Council, which represents commodity associations and institutions under its umbrella and seeks to establish coordination between the private sector and the government. Letters of nomination were handed to newly appointed members at a programme organised at the FNCCI Secretariat on Wednesday.
A meeting of the Commodity Council on Wednesday nominated Bhakta Bahadur Hamal as vice-chairman. During the programme, Acting President Sur Krishna Vaidya and Council Chairman Naresh Lal Shrestha handed over letters to nominated members and advisers. There are currently 142 commodity members under FNCCI.
Speaking at the event, Acting President Vaidya congratulated the newly appointed members, wished them a successful tenure and said the council should play an active and result-oriented role in policy reforms related to industry and business, investment promotion, expansion of production and exports, and resolving issues facing the private sector. He added that the council’s contribution will be significant for the country’s economic development.
FNCCI Vice President (Industry Commerce) Dil Sundar Shrestha said the Commodity Council is an important organ of FNCCI and would play a key role in resolving sector-specific problems.
Naresh Lal Shrestha, FNCCI Vice President (Commodity) and chairman of the Commodity Council, said the commodity member associations are the backbone of the private sector and expressed confidence that the council will advance common agendas of industry and business in an integrated manner. He urged members to present the experience, suggestions and policy views of their sectors through FNCCI and to initiate problem-solving based on research using data from thematic committees.
Associate vice-president and chairperson of the Employers Council Prabal Jung Pandey said that, with the country’s economy not yet returned to its rhythm and a favourable investment environment not established, the council’s role will be crucial in making the economy more dynamic through commercial activities. FNCCI treasurer Manish Lal Pradhan said the activities of councils and committees keep FNCCI dynamic and highlighted the need to prioritise a result-oriented working style to stimulate the economy.
