Nepal exports 22,102 MWh of electricity as demand hits 3,248 MW peak

KATHMANDU: Nepal is exporting surplus electricity during the monsoon season as national energy demand rises, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has said.

Total energy demand in the country reached 73,629 megawatt hours (MWh), the NEA said. The authority is not importing electricity from India and is exporting 22,102 MWh as generation exceeds immediate domestic needs.

Private producers supplied 47,563 MWh to the NEA system, NEA subsidiaries generated 17,108 MWh, and 8,959 MWh came from the NEA’s own projects. Evening peak demand was recorded at 3,248 MWh.

Despite continuous rainfall, the NEA reported there has been no disruption to the power supply. Technical staff have been placed on standby for maintenance, with teams available round the clock at all seven provincial offices and in Kathmandu.
