KATHMANDU: The Medical Education Commission (MEC) has approved its programmes and a budget of Rs 6.55 billion for the fiscal year 2026/27.
The decision has been taken at the commission’s 27th meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Balendra Shah at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, MEC Information Officer Arjun Dhakal said.
The approved budget comprises Rs 5.99 billion allocated from the Government of Nepal and Rs 564 million from the commission’s internal sources.
Of the total, Rs 474 million has been earmarked for current expenditure and Rs 86.2 million for capital expenditure.
Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel and Minister for Health and Food Safety Nisha Mehta attended the meeting, along with MEC vice‑chair Prof Dr Devendra Bahadur Khatri and commission member‑secretary Basanta Prasad Koirala.
