KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has warned that the ongoing monsoon and a low‑pressure system will keep the country under widespread cloud cover, with the likelihood of heavy rain in parts of Gandaki and Bagmati provinces.

The department said moderate rain and snowfall are likely in the Himalayan belt, while hilly areas and some plains can expect light to moderate rainfall.

Tarai districts in Bagmati, Gandaki and Madhesh provinces are forecast to receive moderate rain with thunder and lightning.

The DHM highlighted the potential for heavy rainfall in parts of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, and indicated a likelihood of very heavy rain in certain hilly areas of Gandaki and Bagmati. Night-time conditions are expected to remain cloudy.

Authorities warned of moderate rain and snowfall in the Himalayan regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki, and in parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces. Given the risk of flash floods, landslides and soil erosion, residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to remain vigilant.

The DHM cautioned that adverse weather may disrupt daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism and transport, and advised the public to follow the latest weather updates.
