KATHMANDU: Lawmakers in the House of Representatives today urged the government to emphasise the promotion of electric cooking stoves as an alternative to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Addressing the HoR session, Shreeram Neupane said that promoting alternative fuels was necessary to minimise environmental pollution and reduce reliance on imported cooking gas. He also raised concerns about the difficulties citizens face due to road disruptions caused by monsoon-related disasters.
Dhan Bahadur Budha said Dolpa is struggling to transport foodstuffs and construction materials after landslides blocked roads, and called for prompt rescue, relief and rehabilitation for affected residents.
Prem Bahadur Bayak warned that the number of fatalities from road accidents is rising and urged the implementation of an effective road-safety policy.
Prakash Pathak pressed the government to take effective measures to manage wild elephants in Jhapa, saying local people continue to suffer from animals entering settlements. “The government should ensure result‑oriented deliveries,” he stressed.
Purna Prasad Limbu of Sankhuwasabha reported that incessant rains had disrupted power supply to Bhokhola Rural Municipality, forcing locals to rely on alternative energy sources.
Opposition lawmakers ended their protest today after Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal on Monday issued a ruling directing the Prime Minister to respond to MPs’ concerns in the House.
