FNCCI expresses concern as Bhotekoshi River flood devastates several districts

KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed deep concern after severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi River struck several districts on Wednesday morning, causing extensive loss of life and property.

The flood, which originated in Tibet, caused widespread destruction across riverbed areas in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts. FNCCI warned the surge could extend through Muglin to Chitwan, placing all settlements along the Trishuli River corridor at severe risk.

Following requests by government authorities to halt vehicle traffic along affected routes, including the Prithvi Highway, the business body has urged industrialists, enterprise owners, travellers and local residents to adopt immediate safety measures and maintain high vigilance.

Preliminary reports indicate widespread destruction, though official casualty and loss figures are still being compiled. FNCCI has extended condolences to bereaved families and offered support to affected residents, domestic and international pilgrims and local business owners.

Heavy damage has been reported to physical infrastructure, including private dwellings, commercial premises, public and private vehicles, freight units, vehicles stored in customs yards, bridges and hydropower installations.

FNCCI has committed to supporting long-term rehabilitation work and appealed to all its affiliated district and municipal chambers, commodity groups and business leaders to coordinate directly with security forces and local authorities to prioritise immediate rescue, relief and safety-management operations.
