FNCCI calls for swift relief efforts, private sector support following Bhotekoshi flood disaster
KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has expressed deep sorrow after severe flooding of the Bhotekoshi River caused widespread loss of life and property.
The flooding, which originated in the Tibet region, affected riverside areas in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan districts. In an official statement, FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha offered heartfelt condolences to bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Shrestha urged all relevant government agencies, security forces, local administrations and disaster‑management mechanisms to remain on high alert and to make search, rescue and relief operations more effective and swift. He warned that risks remain high along the Trishuli River and its connected riverine areas and requested that authorities immediately relocate citizens from vulnerable zones to safer areas, control movement in dangerous sectors and ensure early‑warning systems are effective.
The FNCCI President made an urgent appeal to all district and municipal chambers of commerce, commodity associations and industrialists nationwide to join rescue and relief efforts by coordinating with local administrations and security forces. He asked the private sector to utilise its full capacity to arrange and safely deliver essential relief materials, such as food grains, drinking water, medicines and clothing, to affected families.
The FNCCI also called on the business community to place humanitarian sensitivity and social responsibility as the highest priority during the crisis, urging traders to ensure the smooth, regular and uninterrupted supply of essential goods and services while maintaining fair and stable pricing.
President Shrestha stated that the FNCCI stands with affected citizens and entrepreneurs, pledging full cooperation and coordination with the government and local bodies for ongoing relief and rehabilitation.
