Nepal Land and Housing Expo'26 to begin on Sept 17

KATHMANDU: Nepal Land & Housing and Construction Expo-2026 will be held at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu from September 17 to 20, with a focus on sustainable urbanisation and developments in the housing and construction industries.

The four-day expo will be jointly organised by the Nepal Land and Housing Developers’ Association (NLHDA) and the Nepal Land and Housing Developers’ Federation (NLHDF) under the theme, ‘Safe housing, the right of every citizen’.

Siya Events and Associates will manage the event in collaboration with the Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), which is marking its 75th Diamond Jubilee.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, NCC Senior Vice President Deepak Kumar Malhotra called for a review of the fees and taxes imposed on real estate transactions amid the economic slowdown.

Malhotra demanded that the loan-to-value ratio be raised to 70% to help revive the sector. He said declining interest rates and improving liquidity offered an opportunity to strengthen the investment environment.

NLHDF President Bishnu Prasad Ghimire said the real estate business was the backbone of the economy and stressed the need for cooperation between the private sector and the government to make the industry systematic and vibrant.

NLHDA President Deepak Kunwar said the sector had continued operating despite the earthquake, the Covid19 pandemic and prolonged economic stagnation.

According to the organisers, all of the expo’s more than 100 stalls have been booked by exhibitors from Nepal and neighbouring India.

The ninth edition of the expo will feature apartments, land development projects and products including cement, steel, timber, glass, paints, sanitary ware, electrical appliances, solar energy systems and waste-management solutions. Kunwar said housing options priced at around Rs 14 million would also be presented to consumers.

Digital standees, electronic kiosks and virtual reality technology will be used to create a paperless exhibition environment.

Expo coordinator Roshan Bhoyadhyo said the event aimed to promote sustainable urbanisation through safe, systematic and scientific settlement development.

Experts will offer free consultations on earthquake-resistant building construction and Vastu Shastra during the exhibition. Seminars involving policymakers, government officials, engineers and architects will cover climate change, disaster-resilient infrastructure, safe settlement revitalisation and public-private partnerships.

Selected young entrepreneurs will also receive free training and mentorship.

As part of its social responsibility activities, the organising institution has dispatched food, clothing, medicines and drone equipment to families affected by the August 26 floods in Rasuwa. It has also contributed Rs 3.1 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.

A blood donation drive and free medical camp will be conducted in collaboration with Om Hospital and Grande International Hospital. Dedicated treatment packages will be available for people affected by the Rasuwa floods.

Held regularly since 2009, the expo is expected to attract more than 65,000 visitors. Organisers said it would provide guidance to consumers, investors, construction professionals and media personnel on property selection, financial decisions and secure investments.
