Sikkim donors provide over Rs 7 lakh for Rasuwa flood relief

KATHMANDU: Donors in Sikkim, India, have provided Rs 715,104 to the Thamel Tourism Development Council (TTDC). The funds will support rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations for citizens affected by the August 26 flood in Bhotekoshi, Rasuwa district.

A joint delegation formally presented the funds to TTDC President Raju Man Dangol in Kathmandu today. The TTDC confirmed that it will add funds from its own resources to the amount collected before depositing the total sum into the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.

The fundraising effort was initiated by TTDC Treasurer Kinchu Lamu Bhutia Shrestha, who played a significant role in collecting the contributions.

The collection took place on September 1 and 2 and was organised in coordination with the Gangtok-based Organisation of Musicians and Artistes of Sikkim (OMAS) and the Dirty Angels Motorcycle Club (DAMC).

Accepting the donation, Dangol expressed gratitude for the support extended by friends from Sikkim during the crisis in Nepal.

TTDC General Secretary Pashupati Kandel expressed appreciation to the delegates for conducting the relief campaign in Sikkim with compassion during the disaster.

“This assistance is a beautiful example of the longstanding closeness, friendly ties and emotional bonds between the people of Nepal and Sikkim,” Kandel stated.

The delegation comprised Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sikkim and a founding member of DAMC and OMAS; Pemba Chopel Bhutia, Statistical Officer at the Labour Department of the Government of Sikkim and a founding member of DAMC; Keshang Norgay Sherpa, a founding member of DAMC; Tshewang Bhutia, SKM Party Youth Coordinator for the Kabi-Tingda Constituency in North Sikkim and a founding member of DAMC; and Rajan Sharma, General Secretary of the Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
