At least 677 transport workers remain missing after Bhotekoshi floods

KATHMANDU: At least 677 transport workers remain unaccounted for following flooding along the Bhotekoshi, the Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation has stated.

The Federation disclosed the figures on Thursday during a meeting coordinated by Rajiv Pokharel, Director General of the Department of Transport Management. It was also reported that 515 trucks and containers have gone missing in the disaster.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has formed a committee, coordinated by Director General Pokharel, to assess the human and physical damage caused by the floods and to prepare a report containing recommendations regarding the basis for compensation. The committee has been tasked with submitting the report, along with its recommendations, within 15 days.

The panel comprises representatives from the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, the Infrastructure Development Minister's secretariat, transport entrepreneurs, and transport workers' unions. Its members include Rajendra Bikram Baniya, President of the Nepal Truck Transport Entrepreneurs Federation, and Badri Prasad Chaulagai, General Secretary of the Federation.
