University of Nepal appoints Sunil KC as special adviser to board of trustees

KATHMANDU: The University of Nepal (UNepal) has appointed Sunil KC as a Special Adviser and Invitee to the Executive Committee of its Board of Trustees for a one-year term. The appointment was made in accordance with the decision of the 13th meeting of the Board of Trustees held on August 31.

Welcoming the appointment, UNepal stated, "He brings broad experience in institutional and infrastructure development, as well as bilateral economic cooperation."

Upon receiving the appointment letter, KC said he would contribute to enhancing the academic stature of UNepal and supporting its institutional development, viewing the responsibility as an opportunity to contribute in line with the university's institutional needs and priorities.

"I will contribute to the best of my experience and ability to further enhance the academic stature, institutional capacity, and national and international standing of the University of Nepal," he said, adding that developing the university into a strong centre for knowledge, research, innovation, and international collaboration requires cooperation among all stakeholders.

According to the terms of reference set by the university, KC will support and facilitate institutional development while keeping the university’s objectives at the centre of his engagement, particularly in the areas of physical, financial, and technical development. He will also support and facilitate bilateral and other forms of cooperation related to his professional engagements and networks.

KC currently serves as the President of the Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) and is the Founder and Executive Chairman of the Asian Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (AIDIA), a think-tank and graduate school. He has previously served as an Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), a member of the Diplomatic Council, and a former adviser to the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN). Actively involved in Nepal's energy sector, including Singati Hydro Energy, KC possesses broader experience in economic diplomacy and private-sector development.
