WWF Nepal hands over Rs 15m aid for Bhotekoshi flood survivors

KATHMANDU: World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Nepal has handed over Rs 15 million in financial aid for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa.

WWF Nepal Country Representative Dr Ghana Shyam Gurung presented the aid to Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment Gita Chaudhary on the occasion of National Conservation Day at the National Conservation Forum organised by IUCN today. This follows an earlier contribution of Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund, presented to Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle a few weeks prior.

Highlighting the situation, Dr Gurung stated, "WWF Nepal is mission-driven, focused on people-centric conservation and environmental impact assessment. But this emergency contribution reflects the urgency of the moment. Flood-affected communities remain cut off, with roads and connections severely damaged. This fund supports the government's immediate efforts to restore access and reconnect these communities. This is a short-term response. Our long-term focus remains the same: rehabilitating national parks, strengthening environmental impact assessments, and building lasting conservation and climate resilience."
