FNCCI completes formation of Road Transport and Transit, and ICT Development committees

KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has completed the formation process of two thematic committees — Road Transport and Transit Committee and ICT Development Committee. Co-chairpersons, members, and advisers were appointed during a programme held at FNCCI Secretariat in Teku on Wednesday. The initiative aims to effectively advance the road transport and transit, as well as the information and communications technology sectors.

FNCCI President Anjan Shrestha handed over nomination letters alongside Senior Vice President Sur Krishna Vaidya and Vice President for Commodity Naresh Lal Shrestha to the newly appointed officials of the Road Transport and Transit Committee and the ICT Development Committee.

Speaking at the event, President Shrestha emphasised that the thematic committees should serve as the primary mechanisms for formulating institutional perspectives by conducting in-depth studies on the problems, prospects, and policy matters of the private sector. He urged the newly appointed officials to identify the real issues in their respective areas and provide clear policy suggestions for solutions, stating that the expertise and active participation of the committees are essential to make dialogue and collaboration with the government more effective.

Addressing the gathering, Road Transport and Transit Committee Chairperson Lilendra Prasad Pradhan noted that an immediate resolution of existing policy and practical problems is necessary to make trade and the supply chain smooth, competitive, and cost-effective. He indicated that his committee will place high priority on transport costs, infrastructure, border points, and transit facilitation.

Similarly, ICT Development Committee Chairperson Sunaina Ghimire Pandey stated that the rapid development of information technology is opening up new possibilities for a digital economy, technology-based entrepreneurship, and innovation across the country. She expressed her commitment that the committee will work proactively to further strengthen the role of the Federation in digital business promotion and policy reforms.

Senior Vice President Vaidya noted that the committees act as a crucial bridge between the Federation and businesspeople, expressing the view that grievances and suggestions of the business community should be effectively linked to the policy-making level. Meanwhile, Vice President Shrestha mentioned that both the transport and ICT sectors are major foundations for the economic prosperity of Nepal, pointing out that these committees must make a special contribution to enhancing competitive capacity and promoting investment in the private sector.

The FNCCI views its thematic committees as strong bodies to study the challenges and prospects of their respective sectors, collaborate with the government, and submit suggestions for necessary policy reforms to aid the economic development of the country.
