Night-time vehicle restrictions announced for key highways

KATHMANDU: Night-time restrictions on vehicular movement have been announced for several key highways from September 25 to 27, Nepal Police said.

The Police Headquarters said on Thursday that travel on major routes, including the Prithvi Highway, will be halted at night to reduce risks associated with the severe weather.

On the Prithvi Highway, all types of vehicles will be barred from operating between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am, commencing September 25.

Owing to adverse conditions caused by heavy downpours in various regions, the police said all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, and pedestrians will be prohibited on the Siddhicharan Highway (running from Siraha to Solukhumbu via Udayapur) from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am; this regulation will remain in force until September 28.

The Kanti Highway in Makawanpur district, together with the Bhaise-Bhimphedi and Deurali-Kulekhani sections that connect to Kathmandu, have been completely closed to traffic from 7:00 pm.

The BP Highway will likewise remain closed from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am, starting September 25.
